  4. RIEE-Droughts 22-23 Sep 2010 Session 6 23 Sep 2010 • Consolidation of Recommendations/Drought Management Plan • The Workshop • identified six priority gaps • Selected sixteen best-practice based solutions • Recommended nineteen action plan steps for submission to the AWGWRM

RIEE-Droughts 22-23 Sep 2010 6 Priority Gaps • Lack of real time, updated and complete data within wider geographical coverage to allow for research and analysis to enable evaluation and forecasting risks and impacts to plan responses for better drought management • Need capacity building for monitoring and forecasting of drought events, risks and impacts • Lack or limitation of government budget commitment for research and in-depth analyses of all aspects related to drought and management of risks and impacts • Unclear budget allocation policy to operate and maintain the existing data acquisition and communications networks, and monitoring and analysis systems related infrastructure • The need to strengthen drought management related information, knowledge sharing and dissemination to stakeholders at all levels • Lack of coordinated policy, strategy, guidelines and action plans on drought management as part of IWRM (including policy and pricing mechanism for water conservation)

RIEE-Droughts The 11th Meeting of AWGWRM • 2-4 July 2011, Singapore • Took note of the 6 gaps identified and 19 activities recommended • Agreed that AMS will provide feedback on the most important and practical regional activity that could be implemented to Thailand by 2 August 2011 • Agreed to discuss the follow-up actions at the 12th Meeting of AWGWRM based on the feedback from AMS • To date, Thailand has got no feedback from AMS

  7. RIEE-Droughts Thailand Attempt • Discussed possible cooperation with UN-ESCAP • Three possible funding sources • MFA (ROK) - discussed training program targeting AMS - MFA preferred a regional workshop in Oct 2012 in Seoul focusing the development of a regional action program of UNCSD Rio+20 • KECF - still in exploration stage • ASEAN Fund (MFA-ROK) - next proposal submission will be around Feb 2013 • No concrete commitment • Discuss further in August 2012
