Whatisreproduction? Reproductionistheprocessbywhich new organisms are generated. Itisthemechanism of speciescontinuation. There are twomeans of reproducing: asexual and sexual reproduction.
Malereproductivesystem • Thepurpose of theorgans of themale reproductive system is to perform the following functions: • To produce, maintain, and transportsperm (the male reproductive cells) and protective fluid (semen) • Todischargespermwithinthefemalereproductivetractduring sex • To produce and secrete male sex hormones responsibleformaintainingthemalereproductivesystem
organs • Penis:istheorganthatmen use todeposit semen inside a woman’sbodyduring sexual intercourse. Itcontainstwospongymasses of erectiletissue, oneoneachside, abovetheurethra. Theurethraissurroundedbythe corpus spongiosum, whichwidens at theendtotheglands. Theglandsiscoveredbysomeskin, known as theforeskin. • Testicles: there are two of them. Theycontainmanyseminiferoustubules: coiledtubescontainingthecellsthat produce sperm. In betweenthesetubules are cellsthat produce male sex hormones. Thetesticles are locatedoutsidethe abdominal cavity, inside a skinsaccalledthescrotum.
Organs • Otherglands: thesegland secrete substancesthat mix withspermto produce a fluid called semen. -Seminal vesicles: secrete many of thesubstancesfound in semen. -Prostate: secretes substancesthatprotectsperm. -Cowper’sgland: secrete a lubricantthatfacilitates sexual intercourse. • Repreoductiveducts: -Epididymis. Femalereproductivesystem • is a series of organsprimarilylocatedinside of thebody and aroundthepelvic region of a female that contribute towards the reproductive process. The human female reproductive system contains three main parts: the vagina, which leads from the vulva, the vaginal opening, to the uterus; the uterus, which holds the developing fetus; and the ovaries, which produce the female's ova. The breasts are involved during the parenting stage of reproduction, but in most classifications they are not considered to be part of the female reproductive system.
Organs • Ovaries: there are two of them. There are found in the abdominal cavity (oneovaryoneachside). Theexternalpart of eachovaryiscalledthecortex and isfilledwithovarianfollicles. Eachfolliclecontainsonedevelopingeggsurroundedbyothercells. Thecloserthefollicles are totheovarysurface, thebiggerthey are. Thoseclosesttothesurface are calledGraafianfollicles. Eachonecontains a matureeggthatisreadyto be released. Theovariesalso produce female sex hormones. • Reproductiveductsplay a role in fertilisation and gestation: -Fallopiantubes.
