  1. Evolution of the apple ipod

  2. iPod • The iPod is a line of portable media players designed and marketed by Apple Inc. • There are different versions of the iPod: the iPod Classic, the iPod Mini, the iPod Nano, the iPod Shuffle and the iPod Touch. • Apple's iTunes software can be used to transfer music, photos, videos, games, contact information, e-mail settings, Web bookmarks, and calendars to the devices supporting these features from computers. • From 2001-2011, there has been 26 different and upgraded versions of the iPod.

  3. From the Beginning • Digital cameras, camcorders and organizers had well-established markets, but the company found existing digital music players "big and clunky or small and useless“ so Apple decided to develop its own. • PortalPlayer had been working on an MP3 player with Bluetooth headphones. Apple contracted another company, Pixo, to help design the user interface under the supervision of Steve Jobs. Developments went on and Apple continued to change the software's look and feel starting with the iPod Mini. • In 2007, Apple updated the sixth-generation iPod Classic and third-generation iPod Nano by changing the font to Helvetica and splitting the screen in two.

  9. Accessories for IPod • BMW released the first iPod automobile interface, allowing drivers of newer BMW vehicles to control an iPod using either the built-in steering wheel controls or the radio head-unit buttons. In 2005, Apple said that similar systems would be offered for other vehicle brands, including Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Toyota, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Acura, Audi, Honda, Renault, Infiniti and Volkswagen. Scion offers iPod connectivity on all their cars. • In 2007, four major airlines, United, Continental, Delta, and Emirates, reached agreements to install free iPod seat connections. The service allows passengers to power and charge an iPod, and view videos and music libraries on individual seat-back displays.

  10. Criticism of the iPod • iPods have been criticized for short life-span and fragile hard drives. In 2005, there was a survey which found that the iPod line had an average failure rate of 13.7%. Many users complained that the surface of the first generation iPod Nano could be scratched easily, making the screen unusable. • In 2003, lawsuits were brought against Apple complaining that the battery charges lasted for shorter lengths of time than stated and that the battery wore after time. The lawsuits were settled by offering individuals either $50 store credit or a battery replacement for free.
