  5. Daily Lessons • Objective • Our goal to hit for that day • Before • DOL’s (weekly grade) • During • This is where we will engage the text and tackle our daily outcome • You could see us taking notes, working in groups, investigating the text, researching, writing, etc. • After • Did we reach our daily outcome?

  6. Required Materials • List of materials needed everyday • Binder/notebook • Pencil/Pen • Workbook • Device • Bring these to class every day!

  7. Assignments • You can expect to see: • Vocabulary • Writing prompts • Graphic organizers • Group work • Individual work • Presentations • Reading summaries, identifying, discussing

  8. Grading • All grading will be done on a points scale • Not all assignments will be worth the same amount of points • Daily assignment may be worth 20 • Test could be worth 150 • Divide the points earned by total points to get your average • Example: 125/150 = 83% • Assignments will include classwork, tests, quizzes, projects

  9. Workbook/DOL Checks • Workbook and/or DOL’s will be checked on Friday • Keep your DOL’s labeled and in order • Incomplete workbooks will not be accepted • I do not usually give study guides. This will be all that you need to get ready for a test. • We will keep a running list on the board of what should be included; it is your responsibility to keep up with this!

  10. Classroom Policies • Be Responsible • Arrive on time (DO NOT BE LATE) • Bring all materials • Pen, pencil, paper, workbooks, etc…

  11. Classroom Policies • Be Responsible • Make sure your assignments are completed on time and you follow directions • I’m not your babysitter • You are responsible for you • For every action, there is a consequence

  12. Classroom Policies • Be Responsible • BYOD • Use of devices is encouraged • Must be academic related • Texting is not academic • Abuse this privilege and you will lose it • Anytime your phone is being used for something that is not directly related to what we are working on, it will be mine for the rest of the day • A second time and it will be sent to an administrator

  13. Classroom Policies • Be Respectful • To the Teacher, each other, and yourself • Leave other people alone • Do not interrupt other students learning • Proper classroom behavior is expected, including your language

  14. Consequences • 1st offense – warning • 2nd offense – teacher discipline • Extra assignments • Loss of device • Assigned seating • 3rd offense – parent contact • 4th offense – office referral

  15. General Classroom Policies • If you are cold-natured, you better bring a jacket • Life is not about what you want, when you want it, and how you want it • You will not enjoy every moment of every day in this class, but everything we do in here has a specific purpose • Do you work without complaining. If you hate what we are doing, do it anyway. At least you would then be finished with it!

  16. General Classroom Policies • Rules of thumb to live by: • Don’t lie • Don’t cheat • Don’t steal • Don’t whine • Don’t complain • Don’t make excuses

  17. Overwhelmed yet??? • I want you to be successful this year. I will not try to trick you or confuse you. You will know exactly what is expected of you at all times. You will be as successful as you CHOOSE to be.
