  2. How Caves Are Made During Rainfall, water collects on the earths surface and seeps down through small openings in the ground. As the water flows through the soil, it collects carbon dioxide. This raises its acidity and enhances its ability to erode the highly soluble rock(limestone). The acid-rich water dissolves calcium carbonate from the limestone and deposits this mineral in the form of cave features.

  3. Parts Of A Cave Straws- hang high on the ceiling of the cave. They are like thin icicle like rocks. Columns- are tall rocky poles that stretch from ceiling to floor. Drapery- hangs low to the ground and are wavy like drapes Flowstone- is a huge mound of rock that sits on the floor of a cave Stalactites and stalagmites- are way bigger than straws but are the same shape as them

  5. Spelunkers • Spelunkers also known as cavers and people who study caves. They go inside of the caves and study the features of it and collect samples from it to monitor its growth what bacteria lives on it, and how fast a column of rock can form. They risk there lives every day . They use courage, strength, physical and mental strength, and skill, to help them get through the cave in one piece.

  6. Where Some Major Caves Are Located • Naracroote caves ,Naracroote , Australia- A network of 26 limestone caves full of rich fossil deposits. Fossil evidence has enables palaeontologists to trace key stages in the evolution of Australia’s marsupials, such as the Tasmanian devil. Animals such as the threatened Southern bent-winged bats join up into one cave to breed and raise there pups. • Cave and Basin, Banff, Alberta, Canada- This cave contains natural hot springs, stalactites, and stalagmites. Snails live along the algae covered walls, and in small pools of water you can find pink bacteria, small fish, and insects. • Cango Caves, Western Cape, South Africa- colourful limestone features formed millions of years ago. The warm and humid dripstone caves are brimming with glistening stalagmites, stalactites , helictites, and columns.

  7. Getting Prepared For Caving It takes years of training and prep. To become a pro caver. Many cavers begin when they are kids by exploring easy caves with big mouths and smooth floors . You have to be fit in every way. Weight training exercises improve upper body muscle mass, allowing cavers to pull themselves out of tight spaces. Lower body workouts help them push there bodies up steep inclines. You also need the right clothing like sturdy boots, clothing, rope, a first aid kit, a helmet, lights extra energy bars, and insulated equipment to keep them warm.

  8. Dangers • The dangers of being in a cave are very life threatening. You could..... • Have a rock fall on top of you • Slip through a crack • Get lost • Starving • Or getting injured and never making it back out alive!!!!!!
