4. Philosophy for Children “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” ― Mahatma Gandhi Every Monday morning we start the week with a philosophical discussion. The children are encouraged to question and challenge the world around them.

5. Some thoughts the children shared What is language? • “We need language to form ideas in our heads, without language we cannot label the images that we imagine.” • “The voice in my head speaks to me through language, the voice is me and without it I cannot think.” • “ Logic enables me to work out problems and make sense of the world around me. Does logic need language as I learn language, but do I learn logic?”

6. PHILOSOPHICAL ENQUIRYWe have been invited by the Turner to share our discussions with the general public on a Saturday morning • Family Philosophical Inquiry Sat 16th March at the Turner Contemporary – • ‘Join children and teachers from Bromstone Primary School for informal conversations, using the artworks as a starting point.’ (see Turner Contemporary ‘What’s On’ brochure.)

8. ARTS AWARD • Amanda Dissington and Liz Reed attended Arts Award training on 16th January in order to become ‘Discover and Explore’ Arts Award advisors. • " Arts award is a national qualification which recognises how young people develop as artists and art leaders. The award is a personal learning programme which develops both arts related and transferable skills, such as creativity, communication, planning and teamwork. Arts award is managed by Trinity college London in association with the Arts Council England. • We hope to bring this exciting experience to the children of Bromstone. We already win many local competitions, but this is an opportunity to gain a national award !

9. The Art of Story Telling " “Thank you for giving our children such an enriching experience with your storytelling workshops.  Years 3, 4 and 5 loved it and it gave the teaching staff inspiration and confidence to try similar activities with their classes. 10. Children have a chance to film and photograph their creative experiences. This photograph was a result of a visit from a local story teller and now hangs in our school library. “I do not teach children. I give them joy.” Isadora Duncan

11. “I am not a teacher, but an awakener.” Robert Frost During our creativity week we gave the children the opportunity to experience, yoga, guided meditation, Ti Chi, and creative dance. “ I loved Creative week! It made me use my imagination.” year 5 child

12. At the end of Creative week each child displayed their very own box that they had made. Each box celebrated each child, as it celebrated who they were and who they wanted to be. As the light faded each box had a twinkling candle night light shining out.
