Try to keep an open mind Don’t be tempted just to visit places that you’ve heard of, or that you know something about. Explore which countries you may be able to visit on a budget and check other traveller’s reviews to make sure that the place will satisfy your vacation needs. The fact that you may not speak the local language need not be a problem provided you have a simple phrase book with you and are prepared for a little sign language! Explore your travel options If there is a certain country that you would like to visit on vacation, but the flights seem a little costly, why not spend some time exploring other options, such as not flying directly into the country of your choice and using other transport options to get you to your destination? • Don’t always go for the top ten places to visit in your chosen country: It may be true that some cities attract more visitors than others, but for half the price, you might just find another lesser known city with as much, if not more,
charm and entertainment options. Don’t be afraid to get off the tourist trail and who knows what fun you might have? • Once you’ve made your decision, hurry up and book it! Endless procrastinating will get you nowhere, and if you put off booking your trip for too long, you just might find yourself staying right where you are! • What do you want from your vacation? Asking yourself this question and being honest with your reply is one of the quickest and easiest ways of narrowing down your vacation destination options. Do you want an action-packed vacation, or to relax and unwind?
Consider going it alone: While it may seem strange or disconcerting to want to travel alone, for many it’s the best (and often only) way of ensuring that their vacation is truly satisfying and fulfils all their needs. Not only that, but if you can’t find a travel partner, why should that stop you from going?
