What’s out there - 2012 That's a bit of a trick question, as there isn't a definite answer. • March 2012: there were 644 million active websites on the Internet Netcraft – 644,275,754 to be precise • Half a billion is a lot. But when we're talking about the Internet, sounds kind of small • It won't be small for long. The Internet is still growing by leaps and bounds. The March numbers were up by 31.4 million (5.1%) over last month ? March 2012 – October 2012: + how many ?

What’s out there Users beware . . . 2009 148,000 – new zombie computeres created per day – these are used in botnets for sending spam . . . 2.6 million – the number of malicious code threats at the start of 2009 ) viruses, trojans, etc. Some folks are on the web for purposes other than teaching and learning – causing interruption, nuisance, and threat.
