  35. A. It’s Character • It would be Personal • It would have a Logical Structure • It would be Historically Grounded • It would be a Positive Statement

  36. Question 1. What is thy only comfort in life and death? Answer: That I with body and soul, both in life and death, am not my own, but belong unto my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ; who, with his precious blood, has fully satisfied for all my sins, and delivered me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my heavenly Father, not a hair can fall from my head; yea, that all things must be subservient to my salvation, and therefore, by his Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me sincerely willing and ready, henceforth, to live unto him.

Bullinger: • The composition of this book is clear • and its content is pure truth. • All is understandable, • pious, fruitful; in concise brevity • it contains a fulness of the • most important doctrines. • I consider it to be the best • catechism ever published. • God be praised; may he crown it • with his blessing.

  40. Walker: The Heidelberg Catechism is truly an ecumenical symbol. In the best sense of the term, it is a catholic confession of faith.

  41. What About Today? • God is the same • His Truth is the same • Absolute Truth Does Not Change • The Fundamental Problem is the same • The Divine Solution is the same • ...Henceforth, to Live Unto Him!
