Accessing SkillSoft Books 24 X 7 Through LMS

1. Accessing SkillSoft Books 24 X 7Through LMS DLA Training LMS Team July 2012

2. Log into LMS and place your cursor over the Catalog tab Select Advanced Catalog Search when the option appears

3. In the Source field, type in “SkillSoft Books” Click the Search button located on the bottom right side of the screen

4. “SkillSoft Books 24 X 7” appears as the search result Click “Add to To-Do List”

5. When you click the “Add to To-Do List” button from the step above, your LMS Homepage appears with “SkillSoft Books 24 X 7” added to your To-Do list Click on the course title to access the content

6. After selecting the content, you will be prompted to select a PKI certificate Ensure the EMAIL certificate is highlighted, then click “OK”

7. A new window will open for the Books 24x7 site The first time you access Books 24 X 7, you may be prompted to agree to the terms of use After your first time in Books 24 X 7, the LMS automatically adds the item to your To-Do List. You may access Books 24 X 7 directly from your To-Do List in future sessions without having to conduct the Catalog searches described above

8. Click “Take the Virtual Tour” to learn more about Books 24x7

9. A video player will launch and show a virtual tour of Books 24x7

10. From the Books 24x7 homepage, here are several ways to locate books You can select the “Titles” tab, select a topic under “Browse Topics” or search for a book

11. Selecting the “Titles” tab will bring up a list of new titles

12. Expanding the “Filter Options” will allow you to filter the list of titles

13. By selected a topic under “Browse Topics”, several sub-topics will be revealed Select a sub-topic to view books in that subject

14. After selecting a sub-topic, a list of appropriate books will populate

15. To search for a book, type a keyword into the Search bar and click “Go”

16. A list of related books will populate After you locate the desired book, click on the title link

17. From here, you can browse the Table of Contents and choose what part of the book to view

18. After selecting a chapter, the first page appears in the browser Use the “Next” button to navigate the pages You can select another chapter by using the Table of Contents bar to the left

19. Books 24x7 can also be accessed from a personal computer, a smartphone, or tablet To set up access for another computer, select the “Account Info” tab To set up access for mobile devices, select the “Mobile Users” icon

20. The Account Info tab provides a User Name for accessing Books 24x7 from a non-government computer Click the Password tab to create a password

21. Use this page to create a new password

22. After you have entered and confirmed your new password, click “Continue”

23. You can now access Books 24x7 from any computer using the provided User Name and the Password you created Access Books 24x7 with this URL: http://skillport.books24x7.com

24. The Mobile Users icon provides instructions for accessing Books 24x7 from a mobile device You will use the same User Name and Password as before along with the Group Code “DLA” Smartphones will use http://mobile.skillport.books24x7.com Tablets will use http://skillport.books24x7.com

25. New titles are added to Books 24x7 regularly, so check back often to see the latest additions Please note that completions for Books 24 X 7 are not captured in your LMS learning history
