  1. Technology Integration Elizabeth Malone Fall 2009 MSTI 231

  2. What is technology integration? Technology integration is incorporating technology to teach content in an effective way through instructional practices. Technology can empower students to think critically, solve problems, and evaluate more efficiently. Integration is characterized by how and why the technology is used in the classroom. The amount of technology integrated into the classroom does not matter. It matters more on how it is integrated and why it is being integrated into the classroom.

  3. Benefits of technology integration • There are benefits of technology integration for both teachers and students.

  4. How I will integrate technology into my classroom. • I plan on integrating multiple pieces of technology into my classroom. • I plan on integrating SMART boards into the classroom. I want to make my lessons fun for my students by having them use the SMART boards. For example I would teach a Spanish lesson on colors by having my students do activities on the SMART board to get them really comfortable with the vocabulary. • I also plan on incorporating digital cameras into my classroom. One way I can integrate digital cameras into my classroom is by having the students make cards for the holidays and I can take pictures of them for them to put on their cards. I could also have them do scavenger hunts around the school by taking pictures of things that we have just talked about for example shapes.

  5. How I will integrate technology into my classroom. • I also plan on integrating podcasts into my classroom. I learned that I can read stories to my students and they can go back and listen to them online when I post them on my website. I could also send messages home to parents and students to let them know homework or what is going on in the classroom. • I plan on integrating many other types of technology into my classroom these are just three ideas that I have come up with. There are so many other options and they are a great way to teach your students in a new and fun way.

  6. How to effectively integrate technology into the classroom. • Technology can effectively be integrated into the classroom in multiple ways. One specific way is by creating your lesson without technology then supplement the lesson with activities using technology. This is a great way to get the students active in their learning. If you are a teacher who would prefer to use technology in a different way another effective way would be to have the students use technology on homework and out of class activities if it is available to them. This is a way to get students to learn both inside and outside of the classroom because they are learning with things they love to use and play with.

  7. List of software/programs/educational technology that I am familiar with. • Microsoft Excel • Microsoft Powerpoint • Microsoft Publisher • SMART boards • Digital Cameras • Swish • Photostory • Senteos

  8. SMART Boards • Smart Boards are one piece of technology that I feel comfortable with that I plan on integrating into my classroom. They are a newer technology that provide the students with a fun and hands on way to learn.

  9. Swish • Swish is one program that I feel extremely comfortable with and plan on using it to make movies to supplement a lesson to that the kids can listen and watch to something that is different then just hearing a lecture. This is just one example of a SWISH video that I made. Click on it to connect to the video.

  10. Three pieces of technology and how I would integrate them into the classroom. • Microsoft PowerPoint • To integrate PowerPoint into the classroom I would put a lesson into PowerPoint. For example, I could do a lesson on plants. I would use transitions, layouts, and pictures to get the students interested in the lesson. I could also create an assessment for the students to do at the end of the lesson. • Photostory • To integrate Photostory into the classroom I would take pictures from events that have taken place both in the classroom and outside of the classroom I would then add captions to the pictures and use transitions to create a story of what has gone on throughout the year. I would then post it on my website so parents could look at it and see what is going on in their son/daughters classroom. • Senteos • To integrate Senteo’s I would first have to integrate a SMART board lesson into the classroom. For example, if I did a lesson on colors I would then use the Senteo’s to quiz the students on the colors. I would give them the Spanish word and they would have 4 options to chose from one of them being the correct English word. I could also test them on the content using Senteo’s.
