  2. Introduction Dear student, Congratulations! You successfully finished your first WebQuest and now you are ready to move into the second one. This WebQuest is a new challenge for you to test your previous knowledge on the Radio Communication System section of Module 3 of your study program: installation and maintenance of Sound and Image Equipment. I hope you enjoy this it and learn as much as you can from it! Throughout this workshop, you will learn not only about concepts and procedures within the field of telecommunications, but also about how to read and interpret an Operational manual as a genre that will be very useful in your professional life. This Operational Manual corresponds to the Digital Multi meter, an instrument that will allow you to test sound and image equipment as part of the radio communication system.

  15. Process • Functional Description • Scan the section “Functional Description” of this Operational Manual. Does this section have any visual aids that might help you understand what the section is about? • What do you think is the purpose of this section? • Go to http://www.definitions.netand look for a definition of the following words: Function, Backlight, Switch, Socket, Hold, Range, Key, Buzzer. Then go to http://www.synonym.com/ and look for a synonym of these words. • a. Do you think knowing the definition and synonyms of these words might help you understand this section in a better way? • 4. Look at the table presented in the next slide of this WebQuest. This table represents the second Macro Move of the Operational Manual. Study the table and answer the questions below.

  17. Process Functional Description 5. Take a look at the subsections “Panel Configuration” and "Dual Display” of the Functional Description. What are the functions related to the button MENU? (name them). What are some functions shown in the LCD (Liquid crystal Display)? (Clue: these functions are mentioned in the Dual Display table).

  18. Process Functional Description 6. Take a look at the subsection “Special Annunciators”. a. What does RS232C stand for? b. What is the abbreviation of “Memory Mode? c. Which are some symbols displayed in the table? Can you draw them?

  19. Process Functional Description 7. Take a look at the sub section “Button Key Operation” of the Functional Description of the Digital Multi Meter. What is the purpose of this section? What is the recommendation regarding the Power on/off switch? What do you have to do if you want to go into the menu mode? What happens if you press the key for more than one second? How do you select one of the functions which are part of the menu Mode? What do you use the Enter Key for? How do you set the time function? Prepare a diagram to explain the steps you need to follow in order to set the time.

Summarize the procedure to measure ACVs. 7. Take a look at the sub section “DC uA. What is the procedure to measure DCs? What does the image represent? 8. How do you measure DC mAs?

Take a look at the sub section named “Resistance”. Go to http://www.definitions.netand look for the following words: To short, and Lead. How do you get rid of the error that results when you short the test leads? 11. Take a look at the next eight sub sections of “Measurement Procedures”. Prepare a table and indicate the measurement procedures of each of the sub sections. Add a column with key words you think are important to understand the procedures. The next slide corresponds to an example of the table you have to create.
