  6. Physical Symptoms of Stress ● Faster heart beat ● Cool skin ● Increased sweating ● Cold hands and feet ● Feelings of nausea ● Rapid breathing ●“Butterflies in stomach” ● Tense muscles ● Dry mouth

  7. How can you achieve inner peace in spite of all these stressors?

  8. INNER PEACE begins as a state of mind.

William Glasser, Choice Theory ◊ People CHOOSEeverything they feel or do. ◊ No other person can make you miserable or happy. ◊ All we can get from others is INFORMATION. ◊ You have direct control over your thoughts and actions. Your thoughts & actions create your reality. You can choose to think about your feelings & circumstances in ways that support calmness.

  10. The average person has 12,000 to 50,000 thoughts per day. If you are a deep thinker, then the average is 60,000 thoughts.* Meditators call this “monkey mind.” * Researchers say 80% of thoughts are negative.

  11. Finding inner peace requires that you learn to quiet the mind.

  12. This can be done: Silence and solitude are needed to quiet the mind

  13. through PRAYER…. whatever your religious denomination.

  14. through meditation

  15. through walking meditation… in your neighborhood, in nature or on the beach. (We suggest you turn off cellphones during your walk.)

  16. through Yoga or Tai Chi

  17. listening to soothing instrumental or New Age music

  18. By chanting a mantra. A mantra is an energy based sound. It is a Sanskrit word meaning “free from the mind.” A mantra can be a word/s… “peace,” “love,” “Glory be to God,” “Lord Jesus, have mercy on me” or a sound….”Om,” “Shrim,” “Ram”

  19. through gardening… or sitting quietly with your pets…

  20. or by relaxing in a bath.(be careful not to fall asleep!)

  21. The key to any of these suggestions is… To slow down your mind and release the tension in your body.

  22. Begin by taking just five minutes of alone time to quiet your thoughts…. Gradually build up to 20 minutes or more.

  23. Here is a quick way to quiet your mind…. Concentrate on your thumbnail for 2 minutes.

Remember, the more you practice, the greater the benefits!
