  1. South Korea • The Republic of Korea is composed of nine provinces, with Seoul as the capital city. Other major cities include Pusan, Daegu, Incheon, Gwangju, and Daejeon. The landscape of the country is spectacular in its variations and about 70 percent of it is mountainous, with more than 3000 islands dotting the coastline. There are several major rivers in the South, one of which is the Han River which cuts through Seoul.

  2. Seoul (서울) (Capital) • Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is a beautiful modern city with many tourist attractions. Kyongbaok Palace, National Museum, Chogyesa Temple, Korean Folk Village at Suwon (south of Seoul) are some sightseeing highlights. Seoul is also a shopping paradise with large department stores, open markets and duty-free shops

  3. Pusan, Korea • Pusan, city in southeastern South Korea, on Korea Strait. Pusan is the second largest South Korean city and the principal seaport in the republic. Industrial establishments in the city include shipyards, railroad workshops, rubber factories, ironworks, textile mills, rice and salt refineries, and fisheries. The port has ferry service to the Japanese port of Shimonoseki. Pusan has several universities, among them Pusan National University (1946).

  4. Kwangju, Korea • Kwangju in SW South Korea, in the Yongsan River lowland. A regional agricultural and commercial center built on the site of an ancient market, Kwangju has rice mills and industries that produce automobiles, textiles, and beer. The city is also a railway, road, and air hub. In the hills around Kwangju are ancient tombs and temples. The 1980 revolt and ensuing massacre of student demonstrators in Kwangju by government forces was a factor in the toppling of Choi Kyu-hah's government by General Chun Doo Hwan.

  5. Kunsan, Korea • Kunsan in SW South Korea, on the Yellow Sea at the Kum River estuary. It is a major port, especially for rice shipments, and is a commercial center for the rice grown in the Kum basin. Rice processing, fishing, and shipbuilding are important industries, and paper, lumber, rubber, and plastic are also produced. The city is also an important railroad hub. Originally a poor fishing village, Kunsan gained importance with the development of its port, which was opened to foreign trade in 1899. The Japanese, who ruled Korea from 1905 to 1945, further developed the city and port.

  6. Kyongju, Korea • Kyongju is another travel destination. Tumuli Park, Shilla Kiln, Chomsungdae Astronomical Observatory Tower, and Anapji Pond are some attractions in Kyongju. From Kyongju to Pusan, you will find Pulguksa Temple, Tongdosa Temple, Yongdusan Park and some other tourist attractions of this unique and beautiful nation.
