  1. Prometheus The Story of How Fire Came to be on Earth Retold by: Bobby, Alex, Blaine & Corey

  2. A long time ago, Prometheus and his brother, Epimetheus, lived. They were the sons of one of the Titans who had fought against Zeus and been sent to the prison of the Earth. Prometheus was always thinking about the future. Epimetheus was always thinking about the past.

  3. Prometheus helped Zeus become the king of the other gods. Zeus was very happy about this and gave Prometheus the power to create beings out of mud. Prometheus loved this power and created lots of beings while Athena breathed life into them.

  4. Prometheus soon realized that the people of the town needed fire for light, heat, and a way to cook meat. Prometheus went up to Mount Olympus to see the powerful Zeus and ask if he could grant the people fire.

  5. As soon as Prometheus asked this, Zeus replied roughly with a big “NO!” Zeus was afraid that with fire, the beings would eventually overpower him. Prometheus was angered by this. He decided he would bring fire no matter what Zeus said.

  6. One day soon, Prometheus was walking along the seashore down on Earth when he stepped on a stick. He picked up the stick and saw a substance inside that was flammable, so he came up with an idea.

  7. He went up to Mount Olympus and snuck into Zeus’s domain and went over to his lightning bolts. He stole a spark from one and set it on the flammable substance. It then caught on fire and burned slowly. Prometheus then ran out of the domain and went to his beings.

  8. Later, Zeus saw the light. He went down to Earth to find out what the source of light was. He discovered that Prometheus had betrayed him by bringing fire to Earth and Zeus was not happy. The beings down below were happy, though, with the gift of fire.

  9. Zeus looked and looked until he found Prometheus. Prometheus could tell that Zeus was not happy, and he wasn’t. Zeus threw down one of his many lightning bolts at Prometheus and paralyzed him.

  10. Zeus mercilessly ordered Prometheus to be chained to the Caucasus Mountains. The only way Prometheus could be freed was if an immortal volunteered to be sacrificed for him and someone else rescued him.

  11. There Prometheus sat, day after day, with an eagle picking at his liver. Zeus had made it so that every night his liver would grow back and every day and eagle would eat it again.

  12. Since Prometheus was the son of a Titan, he would live there forever because the Titans don’t die. One day, the centaur Chiron said he was okay with dying for Prometheus and Hercules came and rescued him by killing the eagle and freeing the chains.
