Ohio’s new 3rd grade reading guarantee requires that students be assessed in grades K-3 and helped so they do not have to repeat 3rd grade; 61% of CCS 3rd graders passed the 3rd grade reading test compared to 80% statewide, 78% in Franklin County, and 65% in Columbus charter schools. 57% of economically disadvantaged 3rd graders passed in CCS, the lowest rate among the 15 districts attended by Columbus students.
