  1. Gatorade vs. Water By: Nick Sotiroff

  2. My Question • Is Gatorade better for you than water for hydration, minerals, calories, every day drinking and for your body?

  3. Hydration • If you are working out for more than a hour or you are working out intensely for a shorter time period, then drinking Gatorade is better for you than water. It will keep fluids in your system longer and it also helps to replace what you sweat out. It contains more vitamins and minerals than regular water. It is also high in calories and contains a small amount of carbohydrates that help replace the energy you lose while playing sports, preventing dehydration.

  4. If you just need a drink when you are thirsty, water will quench your thirst and keep you hydrated just as well as Gatorade will without the added calories or carbohydrates. Water is also good in combination with Gatorade for sports or working out. Water is essential to keep your body hydrated. Our bodies are 50-65% water.

  5. Minerals • Water has iron, sodium, calcium, potassium, fluoride and magnesium.
 • Gatorade has vitamins A, C, electrolytes, calcium, sodium, potassium, chloride, iron and magnesium.

  6. Calories • If you are calorie conscious, water has no calories. • If you don’t want to add on the extra 85 calories from drinking a standard sized bottle of Gatorade then you should drink water instead. You will have to drink more water than Gatorade if you are relying solely on water during exercise, but will avoid the calories.

  7. Everyday Drinking • Gatorade for everyday drinking will add unnecessary calories and sugar to your diet. • Water is essential for every day health and adds no calories or sugar. In addition city water adds a small amount of fluoride that helps protect your teeth from cavities.

  8. Conclusion Gatorade is better for keeping you hydrated while working out. Gatorade has more minerals that lean toward replenishing lost fluids when exercising. Water is better for daily drinking and when you are not working out. It maintains your fluid balance while adding unnecessary sugar or calories. So in conclusion, Gatorade is best during sports and exercise and Water is best for every day consumption.
