  2. Yorkshire & Humber DAA – Impressive growth and numbers The Yorkshire and Humber Dementia Action Alliance has 23 Local Dementia Action Alliances with 865 members between them.

What is a local Dementia ActionAlliance? • DAA members (organisations and individuals) improve the lives of people with dementiain their area. • The clue is in the name: it is all about ACTION ,not WORDS. • An alliance includes everyone that people with dementia come into contact with (Cinemas, Councils, NHS, Transport, Emergency Services, Museums, Shops, Leisure Centres …) • A DAA is the vehiclefor developing a dementia-friendly community which is therefore more people friendly. • It is a network that MAKES CHANGE HAPPEN! !! DAA MANTRA: COMMIT to an action. CARRY OUT the action.   4. AnyTown DAA: Sector Heat Map of Progress Health & Social Care Children, Young People and Students Arts, Culture, Leisure and Recreation Fire and Police A DAA aims to cover these sectors. This Heat Map is designed to show what progress is being made in your DAA at a glance These sectors are used in the formal recognition process for Dementia Friendly Communities. This Heat Map can help you to set your priorities, as it shows where you having an impact & where you need to do more work Housing Transport Businesses and Shops Community, Voluntary, Faith groups & organisations Instructions on how to complete the Heat Map are available with templates for each sector

What some LDAAs have done • Harrogate DAA – Sporting Memories project and walking football sessions at a football club. • Kirklees DAA – 100% sign-up across GP surgeries. • West Yorkshire Playhouse – Dementia-friendly performances/training • Plymouth DAA – ‘dementia corners’ in libraries. • Bradford DAA – network of local Dementia Friendly Communities. • Leeds DAA – DFC based around a Dementia Café and pub. • York DAA - dementia-friendly transport: taxis and rail and video ________________________________________________________________________________________ dementiaaction.org.uk alzheimers.org.uk

How can we achieve 100% Dementia Friendly GP Practices across Yorkshire & Humber ? • Bradford’s Westcliffe Alliance say keep it simple! • Combining Dementia Friends sessions with action-planning ‘surgery’ has worked What else may help? • Quick Tips leaflets and a pack for nominated person – have you any materials or ideas? • Webinar on regional web platform (accessible by all GP staff) • Promoted by each area’s GP Lead for dementia • Aim: Every area in the region to have at least one dementia friendly GP Surgery by 30th March 2017

Dementia Friendly Communities Accelerator sites Objectives Working initially with 10 communities across England, this programme will aim to identify, test and spread effective ways of mobilising people in social movements that improve health and care outcomes and show a positive return on investment. The programme aims to: Identify and develop exemplar dementia-friendly communities – these may be communities who have been working towards becoming dementia-friendly for years or ones who are just starting this process. Demonstrate ‘what works’ – and why it works. Support growth – enabling local areas to develop approaches that could be scaled or adapted to support other communities, including international communities. APPLICATIONS NEED TO BE IN BY 30TH SEPTEMBER: FORMS AVAILABLE FROM DementiaFriendlyComm@alzheimers.org.uk
