Azariah (Uzziah) Begins To Reign • 52-year reign in Judah [2nd longest] • Began at age 16…“sought the Lord” and prospered as long as he did 2 Chron 26:5 • As with other Judean kings, high places remained a problem 2 Kings 15:4 • Some accomplishments: 2 Chron 26:6-15 – Defeated Philistine cities – Subdued Arabians & Ammonites (tribute) – Became strong all the way to Egypt – Extensive re-building (towers, cisterns)

Divine Blessings Azariah (Uzziah) Begins To Reign • 52-year reign in Judah [2nd longest] • Began at age 16…“sought the Lord” and prospered as long as he did 2 Chron 26:5 • As with other Judean kings, high places remained a problem 2 Kings 15:4 • Some accomplishments: 2 Chron 26:6-15 – A large, battle-ready army (307,500) – Furnished the army’s weaponry – Prepared “engines of war” in Jerusalem – Wide-spread fame

Azariah (Uzziah) Begins To Reign • “But…” 2 Chron 26:16-23 • Also notice last phrase in 2 Chron 26:15 • Uzziah’s undoing = PRIDE • His prior godliness gave way to corruption • His faithfulness turned to unfaithfulness • He assumed positions that were not his • He thought himself to be above the Law • God punished Uzziah with leprosy until the day of his death (had to live alone)

  8. A fig-like fruit, slightly sweet & watery. Somewhat woody in nature. Usually eaten by the poorer people. His customers would not have normally been the rich, upper class. Introducing Amos’ Prophecy • The Man • His name = “Burden Bearer” • From Tekoa • No mention of family, parents, etc. • Most likely, an ordinary (simple) man 1:1 • He even described himself in such a way – “Not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet”7:14 • A grower (dresser) of sycamore fruit 7:14
