Graduation RequirementsFOR THE CLASSES OF 2016 • 4 Years Social Studies • 4 Years English • 3 Years Math (minimum) • 3 Years Science (minimum) • 1 Year Physical Education & 1 Year Health • 1 Year Fine Arts • Complete My Life Plan Milestones (Radiance) • Pass all the MCA Tests: Math, Reading andWritingtests , ACT or the Accuplacer. • ------------------------------------------------------------- • Earn 64.5 Total Credits

  7. Why Should I Take Accelerated Coursework? Accepted to the college of your choice • Colleges look for accelerated classes, such as AP, CIS, & PSEO. Help you become a better learner • Learn lifelong skills • Learn from motivated peers It saves you money $$$ • Better chance to get more scholarships • Could get college credit for classes

  8. Rigorous Courses We encourage taking challenging courses including: • Advanced Placement (AP Courses) • College in the Schools (CIS Courses) • Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO).

PSEO Applications PSEO (post secondary enrollment options): MCTC: http://www.minneapolis.edu/prospectivestudents/pseoapplication.cfm Deadline for Spring semester-December 2nd, 2014 Deadline for Fall semester-June 2nd, 2014 NEW! Sophomores, pass 8th grade MCA test and meet prerequisites of course you want to register for. Juniors-3.0 GPA, top 1/3 of class Seniors-2.5 GPA top ½ of class U of M Twin Cities: http://www.cce.umn.edu/Post-Secondary-Enrollment-Options/index.html Application deadline - April 1st, 2014 Strong GPA (the average admit GPA is 3.7)Space is limited to 500 new students each year. Concordia University St. Paul: Deadline: Fall Semester - May 1st, 2014 GPA of 3.2 are encouraged to apply. These are just a few options for PSEO. See your counselor for forms and more information on concurrent enrollment options!

  12. 10th grade students are able to register for one CTE (Career and Technical Education) coursestheir first semester and will need to have a letter grade of C or higher to continue. A list ofcourses that are included for all 10th grade students is listed below.   13. Why take the PLAN Test? • Taking PLAN is a great way to prepare for the ACT. In fact, students who take PLAN tend to score higher on the ACT than students who do not take PLAN. • It covers the same subjects—English, mathematics, reading, and science—and provides an estimated ACT score. • PLAN points out academic strengths and areas where improvement is needed and lets students know if they're on track for college. • PLAN helps them find careers that match their interests and even helps connect them with colleges interested in them.

  14. Why take the PSAT Test? The PSAT/NMSQT measures: • Critical reading skills • Math problem-solving skills • Writing skills • The most common reasons for taking the PSAT/NMSQT are to: • Receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. You can then focus your preparation on those areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice. • See how your performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college. • Enter the competition for scholarships from NMSC (grade 11).

ACT and SAT Test Prep PSAT Test: will be available to Juniors for purchase during lunch starting Sept 26th and will be available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week until they are sold out. Tests will cost $17.00 in cash. Please note that we cannot accept checks. Tests are available first come, first served. PSAT tests will be available for Sophomores to purchase starting October 15th during lunch. The PSAT will begin promptly at 8:15 am in the Auditorium on Wednesday, October 30th . PLAN Test: Given to all 10th graders November 18th (LA), 19th (Open) and the 20th (AN) of November (Pre-ACT). ACT TEST:http://actstudent.org On the left side click on “Test Prep”. They offer a free test prep guide and free practice test questions for the ACT test. SAT TEST: http://sat.collegeboard.com/practice On the left side click on “Practice and Review”, free SAT practice.

  16. ACT and SAT Tests All juniors in Minneapolis will take the ACT for free one time Thursday, March 19th. Two fee waivers:for tests, see your counselor to see if you are eligible. Colleges only take official scores directly from ACT or SAT. Take in the Spring of your Junior Year for the first time!

Finish: “Career Experience Survey” Liberal Arts Community Service Hours Go to: “About me” then click on “Liberal Arts Community Service Hours 2” to document hours. When you are finished add 2 colleges to “Colleges I am thinking about”.
