  1. [Solved]Error 14 Occurs After iOS 10 Beta Update iOS 10 is just around the corner. Some users have installed an iOS beta on their iDevices and found themselves stuck with various iOS update and restore errors. Actually, Apple has summed up a series of known update errors and their solutions on its support page, but there is no specific solution for iOS 10 update problem. Therefore, in this post, we are going to give you a detailed description of the iTunes Error 14, one of the infamous iOS 10 update errors, and more importantly, show you how to solve it. When Does Error 14 Occur? The error occurs when uses are using iTunes to update their iDevices to the new iOS 10 beta while restoring from the backup. The error pops up, saying, "The iPhone/iPad could not be restored. An unknown error occurred." However, when updating from iOS 8 to iOS 9 previously, it was okay to upgrading to the new software and restoring from the backup at the same time.

  2. How Should We Solve Error 14? Obviously, this error is new to the users. And some users tried to fix it with usual methods, such as changing USB ports or cables, reboot, switching to DFU mode. None of these methods works. If you have verified that neither USB connection nor DFU mode can help, then you should try the following troubleshooting tips to fix the Error 14. Tip 1. Install Xcode 8 on Mac If you try to update to iOS 10 beta with iTunes on Mac, you should make sure that the latest version of Xcode has install on your Mac. Apple has reminded users that "you must have the latest version of Xcode 8 installed on your Mac before using a Restore image to install iOS or tvOS beta software on a device". Therefore, before upgrading your iOS devices to iOS 10, you might want to install Xcode 8 on the Mac from the Apple developer portal or Mac app store so that the error won't occur during the update. Tip 2. Backup and Clean Restore of iOS 9.3.2 If the Error 14 has occurred before you know the importance of Xcode 8, you can try backing up the iOS device and doing a clean restore of iOS 9.3.2 to fix the error. Firstly, make a backup of your iOS device. Then do a restore to the latest public release, which is iOS 9.3.2. Before restoring from the personal backup, use the IPSW file that is downloaded from Apple's Developer to clean restore iOS 10. After iOS 10 beta has installed, you can then restore the backup.
