  1. April 1 and 2, 2014 Comparing fiction and nonfiction Tuesday of the Other June, Primer and The Problem With Bullies Homework: I Ready - bring headphones for Wednesday and Thursday! Bring money for book fair tomorrow. Objective: I can compare and contrast works of fiction and nonfiction and recognize similarities in main idea. Warm Up (in your composition book) Copy your objective into you comp book. In your own words, define BULLY. Then, turn to pg. 168 in your IR book and read the section HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH A BULLY? Complete the LIST IT activity on the side where it says ADVICE FOR DEALING WITH A BULLY.

  4. A Imagery: Reread lines 9-13. What details help you form a mental picture of what is happening? What senses do these appeal to?

  5. B Sensory Language: Reread lines 26-34. What details help you picture the nights when June gets scared?

  6. C Connect: What does June want for her mother? Have you ever had similar feelings?

  7. D Imagery: Reread lines 84-100. What sensory language does the author use to help you imagine the bully's behavior towards June?

  8. E Connect: Have you read any other stories about bullies? Is June's reaction to her bully similar or different from what has happened in other stories?

  9. F Imagery: Reread lines 117-126. What images help you understand how June feels about her situation?

  10. G Connect: In line 115, June remembers her mother's advice to be good. Do you think it's better advice to "be good" or to take revenge on the Other June? Explain.

  11. H Personification: Reread lines 141-147. What objects or ideas are personified and what is the effect of this?

  12. I Connect: As they are driving away from their home, June suddenly realizes that her life is going to start anew elsewhere. Have you ever had to move? How did you feel about moving to a new place?

  13. J Sensory language: Reread lines 217-221. Which details help you picture what it looks like inside the house and how it feels to be there?

Turn in your Lit book to the poem "Primer" on pg. 482. Read the poem. A primer is another word for a textbook. Explain why you think the author chose that as the title for her poem. How does the title relate to / reflect the content?
