  2. Why Take PPA? • Become a better writer • Learn how to communicate your life experiences • Earn cheap academic credits

  3. Bridging the Gap • To graduate: 126 credits • Major: 36 credits • General Education: 32 credits You could need up to 58 credits of electives.

  4. The Basics • Limit of 30 credits • Must pass PPA course with a C- or higher • No PPA? No essays and a small charge for Professional Training submissions • Cannot submit PLA while on leave of absence

  5. Submitting Essays • Evaluated based on articulated learning, not the experience itself • Expert evaluators • Learning outcomes must be “college-level” • Spell-check! Rewrites

  6. Essay Must-Haves • Fillable cover sheet (found online) • Abstract • APA format (with headings) • Documentation Essays receive between 1 and 3 credits, sometimes up to 4 based on learning outcomes and application of learning.

  7. Submitting Professional Trainings • Structured classes and/or seminars not officially transcripted by a college • Typical setting: a proprietary school, business, church, or training required by insurance or social service workers • Certificates are usually awarded at their completion • Must contain sufficient content depth to be considered collegiate level

  8. Professional Training Must-Haves • Must be over eight hours in length • Fillable cover sheet (found online) • Documentation of successful course completion • Verification of seat hours • A syllabus, course outline, or summary of course materials, listing major topics covered.

  9. The Process • Student: Submits PLA essay or training to pla@georgefox.edu (Approx. 2 weeks) • Enrollment Manager: Processes PLA, makes sure all pieces are included, assesses subject, sends to evaluator • Evaluator: Evaluates submission (Approx. 2 weeks) • Enrollment Manager: Receives submission, records credit award, notifies Enrollment Counselor (Approx. 1 week) • Submission emailed back to student with comments and cover sheet TOTAL TIME: 5-6 weeks

  10. Deadlines • Starting for those graduating in spring 2014, deadlines will be the final day of your third cohort semester (i.e. the semester before you finish) • Spring Commencement : last day of fall term (Dec.) • August Completion : last day of spring term (Apr./May) • Fall Commencement : last day of summer term (Aug.)
