This preparation includes increased responsibility for • organization • behavior and listening • assignments • learning tools We appreciate each other for our different talents, gifts, learning rates and variety of ways we obtain knowledge.

  5. Extended Learning OpportunityHomework • Purpose of Homework • Agenda – Daily log of homework • Time requirements for homework • Homework is checked in each morning and corrected in class. • 30 minutes of reading at home Mon-Thursday*

Why Can’t My Child Skip His or Her 20 minutes of Reading Each Night By the end of 5th Grade • Student A will have read the equivalent of 60 whole days of school. • Student B will have read only 12 school days. • Which student would you expect to have a better vocabulary? Which student would you expect to be more successful in school…and in life?

  7. Criteria for Assignments • Name, number, date, and, if needed, title/page number are in the correct area of the paper. For Math, include the time on your Study Link. • Legible cursive is required on all assignments. Use of the computer is acceptable. • Correct spelling is used. • Correct grammar and punctuation is expected. • Work is complete, and turned in on time. • Directions have been followed. • If any of the above criteria is not followed, the assignment will not be accepted. • It is your student’s responsibility to remember their homework each day. Please help us hold them personally accountable.

  8. Fifth Grade Behavior Expectations Student generated expectations • Treat others the way you want to be treated • Be responsible with all supplies. • Focus on your work to do your best. • Safety comes first. • Stay busy. • Have fun!

  9. Consequences Step 1: A firm verbal warning will be given by the teacher. One check on clipboard Step 2: “Time out” from the activity. Second check on clipboard Step 3: Third check on clipboard. Student will attend Homework Zone to complete the “Choose to Be Responsible” Form.
