  2. UC ASSISTANT PROFESSOR REVIEWS 2014 THIS YEAR FOR 2014 • PDR & Assistant Professor Review meetings may be conducted simultaneously • However they have different purposes and processes • Today the purpose is to talk about Assistant Prof reviews. Other sessions are available for PDR

UC ASSISTANT PROFESSOR REVIEWS 2014 PURPOSE PURPOSE OF REVIEWS To determine whether you are “on track” to obtain promotion to Level D by the end of your review period via the University’s academic promotion process. Refer to Clause D8 of EA NOTE Appointments longer than 5 years have two (2) review dates – 2 years and 5 years.

UC ASSISTANT PROFESSOR REVIEWS 2014 PROMOTION HOW TO GET PROMOTED TO ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR • at least one (1) of the three categories of Teaching & Learning,Research & Research Training and Engagement & Service should be at the outstanding level, and the remaining two (2) categories at the significant level. • Assessed over your academic career but with emphasis on performance since appointment or last promotion

UC ASSISTANT PROFESSOR REVIEWS 2014 CHECKPOINT HOW ‘ON TRACK’ IS DETERMINED • Developing a record in research that could be deemed as at least significant over the review period • Developing a teaching and learning profile that could be deemed as at least significant over the review period • Developing an engagement/service profile as above • Developing one of these areas at an outstanding level – noting that more emphasis is placed on research and T&L (Refer to PEAS for details of significant/outstanding performance)

UC ASSISTANT PROFESSOR REVIEWS 2014 THINGS TO NOTE • Performance in PDR could be satisfactory but you may not be on track to achieve promotion within the period • Use the review to develop a clear plan of action to lead to improved performance • Use the review to agree on support requirements from your area • Be realistic about your achievements to date and your plans for the next few years

UC ASSISTANT PROFESSOR REVIEWS 2014 PDR INFORMATION CONTAINED IN PDR • can help demonstrate the specific deliverables you will achieve to be promoted by the end of your review period • can show you have a rigorous, but achievable plan and are on the right trajectory for promotion • can help identify & mutually agree support required to achieve promotion • provides an official, accessible record of achievement on an annual basis
