  10. Can medical education be completed in 3 years? • Primary care education is now 7 years (reducing 7 years to 6 years) • LCME requirement: 130 weeks of instruction • Proposed program will be intensive

  11. Lafayette Basic Science Curriculum Planning • Working group (reports to Curriculum Oversight) • Rough draft of daily content: Spring 2012 • Creating key faculty positions • Identify interested and qualified ULL faculty

  13. Lafayette Key Curriculum Differences • Systems-based basic science education • Earlier career planning and earlier start of clinical clerkships • Additional training in primary care • Greater emphasis on prevention, community health, and the patient centered medical home

Physicianship and Medical Professionalism • Professionalism Work Group – faculty, residents, students from all classes • Purposes • Ensure that expectations regarding professionalism are more explicit for all courses and clerkship • Develop process to identify issues of professionalism and provide formative feedback to students

Courses and Clerkships • Professional expectations will be explicit for each course and clerkship. • Expectations will be reviewed at orientations. • Evaluation forms will reflect these expectations. • Lapses in professional behavior will result in formal documentation and feedback counseling. • Extraordinary professional behavior should also be noted.
