Directions for Reflections on Practice Posters • Complete and hang your poster in the third of the classroom where your table group is located, by 12 noon on Thursday, July 12 at the latest. • At the same time as you prepare your poster, create a Word document of the major points and email it to Cal at sig225@gmail.com with the subject “Poster from Table XX” where XX is your table number. Please make sure to send this email by 1 pm on Thursday. This is needed so that the teachers from McAllen can participate. Task for each table-Wednesday and Thursday- • Short sketch of teaching through problem solving • Purpose of the problem solving (goal of the lesson) • What mathematics, beside developing problem solving skills, you would teach by using this situation? • Questioning • How would you pose the problem • What question(s) would you ask to your students to learn mathematics? • Beyond show and tell • Anticipate students’ responses to your questions that including misunderstandings to facilitate discussion • Briefly describe how would you facilitate discussion Presentation is prepared for The Park City Mathematics Institute, Secondary School Teachers Program, July 9-July 20, 2007 by Akihiko Takahashi

Between 12 noon on Thursday and 11 o’clock, am on Friday you need to look at all the posters • As you look at the posters, use the post-it notes provided to pose questions to the group that created the poster. • the pink post-its are to be used to ask content area questions, • the blue post-its are to be used to ask pedagogical questions, and • the green post-its are to be used to ask logistical questions. • stick your post-it notes with the questions next to the poster. • On Friday, you and your group will have the opportunity to reflect upon your own lesson as well as to discuss with the other table groups in your part of the room.
