  1. EAPN: Fighting for a Social Europe Free of Poverty Brussels – 13 Oct 2012 Input: Fintan Farrell, Director, EAPN Meeting of National Coordinators People Experiencing Poverty EUROPEAN ANTI-POVERTY NETWORK RÉSEAU EUROPÉEN DES ASSOCIATIONS DE LUTTE CONTRE LA PAUVRETÉ ET L’EXCLUSION SOCIALE

  2. Original Idea • NAPs (Poverty) – Participation of PeP • Driven by Belgian Gov. – Some resistance from EAPN • EU Presidency Meeting – In style of Presidency Meetings • Not creating a new Organisation but strengthening process of participation of PeP (Meeting just a high visible point) • PeP beginning to get involved and/or Activists with Direct Experience of Poverty

  3. Impact of the Meeting 1/2 • Perhaps the most well documented Meeting (report and videos… ) • Impact Study • General Impact (+ -) • Impact on PeP (+) • Impact on Civil Soc, NGOs and Institutions (+) • Impact on Policies (?)

  4. Impact of Meetings 2/2 (my Assessment) • For building participation and on EAPN (+) • Visibility of Poverty (+ Pov Target, social inclusion in Europe 2020) • Highlighting and contributing on key policy areas: (+) • Wealth/Inequality • Indebtedness • Adequacy of Min Income • Public and accessible services (energy, water…) • Homelessness/Housing • Child Poverty • Impact on Overall Development model (-)

  5. Future ? • Commission: Want so stop repeated Presidency Conferences – Willing to continue to support participation of people experiencing poverty. Question if it is the best way to use the Money (300.000 Euro)? • What EAPN wants to achieve: • Annual Meeting of PeP (organised by EAPN) – Partnership with EU Presidency • Financial support for participation process at National Levels • Support for other Initiatives to support participation • Need to develop EAPN tactics to achieve what we want

  6. Future Scenarios? • What EAPN wants (or part of it) • Commission talks about pep but just some invites for PeP to big meetings • Funding divided between different actors to support participation • Use PeP money to support for example EU Network of Homeless People • ???????

  7. What to do today: • In Large Group • Questions/comments about general scenario • In Small Groups discussion: • Suggestions for future meetings (right objectives for these meetings?) • Position, role status of Nat Coordinators in Nat Net • How to increase pep process at National level
