The information being presented is to increase your knowledge of aromatherapy as a complementary modality in health care. Individuals seeking to include aromatherapy as a part of their overall wellness plan should consult a certified clinical aromatherapist and/or their primary healthcare provider.

Aromatherapy Basics • Aromatherapy has been around for thousands of years • Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils from plants to enhance psychological and physical well being • Essential oils are the aromatic part of the plant • Inhalation and skin application are the most common methods of administration • FDA regulation of essential oils • Individuals are not required to be “registered” to practice aromatherapy in the United States • Practice is not standardized nor regulated Manion & Widder, 2017; Keville, 1999

  8. Incorporating Aromatherapy for Personal Use There are numerous ways to incorporate essential oils in your daily life Mood Home Clothing Beauty Skincare Well-being

Home – All Purpose Cleaner • 1/2 cup of White Vinegar • 1/2 cup of Water • 1 tsp of castle soap (or any liquid dish soap) • 8 drops of Lemongrass essential oil • 15 drops of Tea Tree essential oil • 20 drops of Lemon essential oil Mix all the ingredients listed above into a spray bottle. Shake well before use, Use as a general cleaner throughout your home. Try this one today!

  10. Clothing – Natural Laundry Scent Booster Create your own custom laundry scent by adding 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil to unscented laundry detergent

  11. Mood – Stay Focused • 4 drops of Pine Needle essential oil • 2 drops of Lemon essential oil • 3 drops of Rosemary essential oil Add oils to a cotton ball and put the cotton ball in a small jar. Open and sniff as needed throughout the day to keep a clear mind and stay focused. Try this one today!

Well-being – Fight Jet Lag • 8 drops of Grapefruit essential oil • 4 drops of Lime essential oil • 3 drops of Rosemary essential oil Add oils to a cotton ball and put the cotton ball in a small jar.   13. Skin Care – Skin Soother • 3 drops of Lime essential oil • 4 drops of Grapefruit essential oil • 5 drops of Pine needle essential oil • 2 tbsp raw sugar • 3 tbsp coconut oil Mix well and massage vigorously into the skin.

  14. Beauty – Brighten and Nourish • 2 drops of Sweet Orange essential oil • 1 drop of Rosemary essential oil • 1 tbsp Raw Honey Mix well and lightly massage onto face. Let sit for 2 minutes, rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

  15. Beauty – Strengthen Nails and Cuticles • 3 drops of Patchouli essential oil • 3 drops of Frankincense essential oil • 3 drops of Tea Tree essential oil • 2 tbsp of Coconut Oil Mix well and massage into nails and cuticles. Try this one today!
