HAUORA ( Wellbeing). Hauora. Hauora is a Māori philosophy of health unique to New Zealand. It comprises taha tinana (physical), taha hinengaro (mental/Emotional), taha whanau (social), and taha wairua (spiritual). . Each of these four dimensions of hauora influences and supports the others .

  2. Hauora • Hauora is a Māori philosophy of health unique to New Zealand. • It comprises taha tinana (physical), taha hinengaro (mental/Emotional), taha whanau (social), and taha wairua (spiritual).

  3. Each of these four dimensions of hauora influences and supports the others

  4. Social Physical Wellbeing Spiritual Emotional/Mental

  5. Taha tinana - Physical well-being • the physical body, its growth, development, and ability to move, and ways of caring for it

  6. Taha hinengaro - Mental and Emotional well-being • coherent thinking processes, acknowledging and expressing thoughts and feelings and responding constructively

  7. Taha whanau - Social well-being • family relationships, friendships, and other interpersonal relationships; feelings of belonging, compassion, and caring; and social support

  8. Taha wairua - Spiritual well-being • the values and beliefs that determine the way people live, the search for meaning and purpose in life, and personal identity and self-awareness (For some individuals and communities, spiritual well- being is linked to a particular religion; for others, it is not.)

  9. Tasks • a) Write a “Personal definition of hauora.” This should demonstrate the inter-relatedness of the four dimensions, as applicable to you. (approx 250 words). • b) Outline a “Hauora Hypothesis” -This should include how you think the programme you are taking part in will influence your personal hauora/wellbeing and what you hope to get out of the programme. (approx 250 words).
