  2. Stories • All stories have at least one setting. Some may have more than one.

  3. Setting • Setting is when and where a story takes place.

  4. Mood • Sometimes also called “Atmosphere” • Mood is the effect the story has on how the reader feels. • Locations in a story often affect the mood. • Example: graveyard, church, bar

  5. Tone • The author’s attitude toward the subject matter or characters that are in the story. • Details the author uses to describe the setting affects tone. • EX: “dirty, run-down, pristine”

  6. Imagery • Words or phrases that affect the five senses. • The five senses are: sight, smell, touch, hearing, and taste.
