  2. What are OCLC macros? • Scripts that perform a sequence of actions in Connexion Client • Actions can include: • Pretty much anything from the Connexion client menus, plus more • Anything constant data can do, plus MUCH more

  3. Why OCLC Macros? • Save time: have the computer instantaneously do many things that you would have had to do piecemeal • Save accuracy: have the computer remember several things for you, instead of counting on yourself to remember perfectly every time

  4. Macros can –Constant data can’t! • Change an existing field, instead of just adding a new one • Delete fields • Find and replace

  5. Macros can – Constant data can’t! • Move/copy text from one field to another • Perform actions conditionally (e.g., delete call number *if* record is a microform serial) • Dialog boxes!

  6. Demonstration 1 A macro to derive an e-book record from a print book record. Imaginary ebook database is called “Ebook World” URLs look like “http://www.ebookworld.com/accessionno.”

  7. Demonstration 1 This macro will: • Derive a new record • Set fixed field Form = s • Add 006 and 007 • Add general material designation (245$h) • Add Field 533 customized to particular book • Add Field 856 customized to particular book
