  3. “History” “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” – Santayana • History: the record of past human events • Prehistorical: history before the development of writing (therefore, it is unsure what really happened and we must use evidence to draw conclusions) • Archaeology: the science of finding and studying physical remains (e.g. cave paintings, buried cities, old pottery and jewels and fossils) • Interpretation: conclusions based on characteristics
