  1. Getting Started With Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013 We Will Call It “Inventor”

  2. Relevant Vocabulary Make sure to write in each vocabulary word on your relevant vocabulary worksheet when you see it in the presentation! Don’t forget to spell it correctly!!!

  3. What is CAD? Computer Aided Design is the use of a computer to assist in the process of designing a part, circuit, building, etc.

  4. We use CAD to make a Model A Model is a visual, mathematical or 3D representation in detail of an object or design, often smaller than the original. They are used to test ideas, make changes to a design, and to learn more about what would happen to a similar, real object.

  5. You can then build a Prototype A Prototype is a full-scale working model used to test a design concept by making actual observations and necessary adjustments. (This is what we will print with our 3D printer!!!)

  6. Want to try it?Then go log in!

  7. Find the icon “Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013.” Double Click to Open the program.

  8. Ribbon • This is what you will see. Now find the ribbon running across the top of the screen. • The Ribbon is a palette that displays buttons and controls used for both 2D drawing and 3D modeling and viewing. • Find the New Icon and left click to open it.

  9. When this box comes up, make sure that “Standard.ipt” is chosen. Then left click the “Create” button.

  10. Click on the paper and pencil above 2D sketch. • 3D Indicator • Shows direction of X, Y, and Z coordinates. • Red represents X, • Green represents Y • Blue represents Z directions

  11. View Cube Clickable and draggableinterface that is used to switch between standard and isometric views Sketch Plane The surface on which 2D profiles can be sketched

  12. Click on the XY Plane

  13. You should see the origin (yellow point) and 2 lines that represent the x and y axes

  14. Isometric View- A drawing in which all three drawing axes form equal angles of 120 degrees with the plane of projection.

  15. Browser A sequential record of the construction steps In the browser, right click on Sketch 1

  16. A menu will appear. Click on “Edit Sketch”

  17. Notice the Ribbon changes back to the 2D options.

  18. To make all of the drawing show in the view window, left click on “Front” on the view cube.

  19. Now to Save; Click on the Menu (The Big “I” Icon) and then select “Save as” Ta Da!

  20. Ut-Oh! We forgot to get back to 3D by clicking the “Finish Sketch” button. It’s alright though, just choose okay.

  21. Look for “My Documents”

  22. Click the “New Folder” Icon

  23. Name the folder “3D” and open it.

  24. Name this drawing “First Try”, then click “Save”

  25. If you did this right, the file name now shows up.

  26. Congratulations!!! You have successfully completed Phase One!
