  2. PTIUWG Meeting • Conference call held on 03/26/2012 • 29 Different Participants called in. • Discussed different issues as shown in later slides. • Planning to have the next conference call before the next TSS meeting.

  3. PTIUWG Charter • Reviewed the charter. • Changing the review of the charter from annual basis to biennial basis. • No other changes at this time. • Revised charter posted on WECC website for comments. • Seeking TSS approval for changes.

  4. Topics Discussed • Base Case Conversion Issues • Issuance of new models. • Composite Load Model • GENTPJ Model • Moving to version 33 • Possibility of having a training webex on new features added to version 33 with respect to dynamics.

  5. Conversion Issues • Power flow conversion working fine. • Lot of time consumed in converting the dynamic cases. (Approximately 40 to 60 hours/ case) • Main causes of conversion issues • Difference in models used by PTI vs. GE • Initialization of different Models • Full cycle conversion not performed. (GE to PTI to GE)

Conversion Issues • Thanks to Bill Hall for working on the conversion issues and making converted cases available for use to the members using PSSE. • Suggestions that may alleviate conversion issues and delay in development of PSSE base cases. • Develop a full conversion cycle (GE to PTI to GE). Both Platforms (PSSE and GE) needs to have a full conversion program and both needs to keep updating as changes happen. Will help in identifying and resolving conversion issues. • Close match of models between GE and PSSE. • Establish a process that will put a new developed model in production only after model conversion established and properly tested on both platforms. This can eliminate the lag time between the two platforms.

  7. Composite Load Models • Jay Senthil & Bill Hall Currently working on developing and testing the model to be used in PSSE. • Issues idetified • Size of the user model data set. • Uses 147 VARS for each load model. Approximately 700,000 VARS only for load models. • Increase in dimensioning required to accommodate the composite load model. • PSSE currently debating internally on how to implement increased dimensions in order to use the composite load model.

  8. Composite Load Models • PTIUWG asked members to provide information on the how many CONs, VARs and ICONs they are using for their own user models. This will help in establishing the dimension requirements to accommodate the load model along with other models and user models used by members. • A “dll” is developed to implement the composite load models. Bill Hall will work with Jay Senthil to test the load model and dimension requirements.

  9. GENTPJ Model • Siemens-PTI currently working on the model. • Scheduled to be released in version 33.2 this July.

  10. Moving to Version 33 • Moving to version 33 was also discussed. • Jay elaborated on benefits of moving to version 33 with respect to dynamics • Every user doesn’t need a compiler • One user creates a .dll for the user model and others don’t need the compiler. • CONET and CONEC calls for user defined models have been eliminated. • With Version 33 dyre file format may look different. • Exploring possibility of having a webex training session with PSSE to show the users different benefits of moving to version 33.
