  1. Problems on money Developed by: Brahim H.B. B. Ed. In Primary Education Science & Mathematics Year 2

  2. Example 1 5 pens cost $35.00. What is the cost of 3 pens? Method 1 5 pens = $35.00 10 pens = $35 + $35 = $70.00 Therefore, 1 pen = $7 2 pens = $7 + $7= $14 3 pens = $7 +$7 + $7 = $21

  3. Method 2 5 pens = $35 10 pens = $70 Therefore, 1 pen costs $7 1 pen = $7 1 pen = $7 + 1 pen = $7 3 pens = $21

  4. Example 2 A class of 20 pupils bought two books for their class library. One book cost $15.45 and the other $14.55. How much did each pupil pay? Method 1. 1st book = $15.45 2nd book = $14.55 Total = $30.00 20 pupils pay $30 10 pupils pay $15 1 pupil pays $1.50 10 is half of 20 Therefore, half of $30 is $15

  5. Method 21st book = $15.452nd book = $14.55Total = $30.00 For 20 pupils = $30 For 10 pupils = $15 Therefore, 1 pupil = $1.50 Since 10 is half of 20 the payment is $15. Therefore, 1 pupil = $15 ÷ 10 = $1.50.
