  14. Best Wishes fromSheree Kruckenberg What are your most memorable moments of working with Scott?  Sitting in a meeting room with him filled with 40 hostile and distrusting individuals. These folks represented hospital management and emergency department clinical staff, mental health consumers, patient rights advocates, EMS transporters, law enforcement and county behavioral health officials. Scott had called and coordinated  the meeting. He knew it would be a challenge and it was, voices were raised, fingers were pointed and many left the meeting thinking nothing would change, nothing would be fixed and that no one’s problems would be resolved. Well 16 long months later they were all proved wrong!   Again we were sitting in a meeting room filled with 40 individuals, but they were no longer hostile and distrusting. Instead they had become partners in solving a complex problem, they had developed a trusting relationship, and some even became friends. This was Scott’s doing – he set the stage from day one, held people accountable for both their action and inaction………. resulting in SUCCESS.  What are highlights of Scott’s accomplishments in your work together? Scott played a pivotal role in improving the lives of individuals living with psychiatric disorders in Sacramento. If I had to summarize his efforts they could be easily stated: Persistent, aggressive, and relentless collaboration in addition, of course to  his uncanny ability to treat each and every person in a room as if they were the most important person there.     What message do you want to send to Scott as he enters this great new phase of life? Go into retirement with the same persistent, aggressive, and relentless collaboration you showed at work but do it with your family and friends – they will ALL benefit from it.

  16. Special Guest What are your most memorable moments of working with Scott? First, Scott was active in the CHA Center for LTC and became chair.  During his tenure as chair, he served on the CHA Board of Trustees.  His support for health care and commitment to patients are memorable.  His dedication to improve his own health---and lose weight----are a testament to his convictions.  Hearing him sing is a special pleasure. What are highlights of Scott’s accomplishments in your work together?  Helping to organize the CHA Center, bringing post-acute care to the forefront and representing hospitals in his role at the Hospital Council. What message do you want to send to Scott as he enters this great new phase of life? Stay lean, clean and gentle.  In other words, keep on keeping on and enjoy the next phase of your life. Pat Blaisdell Best Wishes What are your most memorable moments of working with Scott?  Hearing him sing Amazing Grace at an event (on the anniversary of Sept 11, I think)   -  It made me cry    What are highlights of Scott’s accomplishments in your work together? Scott’s knowledge of and dedication to post acute care services – he has helped build awareness of the critical role these services play in the continuum of care,  and provided recognition to our members.  He provided invaluable support for the transition from previous provider-based center to the 2011 creation of the CHA Center for Post Acute Care.  What message do you want to send to Scott as he enters this great new phase of life? I know that you will continue to use your gifts to help others.  We are all enriched by your presence and contributions.

  21. Best Wishes from HC Officers/Section Chairs • Mitch Hanna: Every year I host the Leadership Auburn class for their Health and Human Services Day, and every year I call upon Scott to present to the class on current issues affecting hospitals and health systems.  Scott has consistently given an outstanding program, and he always get very high marks in the evaluations completed by the class members.   I am really going to miss having him as a resource! Scott, you really tick me off!  It’s wrong that you should be retiring, and I’m still here in the trenches grinding it out!  Seriously, I wish you the best in your years in retirement and know that you will continue to keep occupied enjoying your family and friends.  Here’s to many happy, healthy years in retirement!  Mitch • Dave Culberson: Scott’s commitment to improving the health of residents of San Joaquin County and assuring that the hospitals and the Health Plan of San Joaquin work together to create a successful partnership.Thanksfor your help working with all of us in San Joaquin County.
