President’s Report • School Board Vacancy • Information Night – Feb. 6 • Applications Due – Feb. 15 • High School Schedule Change • “Modified Block 7 Period Schedule with Flex Time Option” to take effect in Issaquah and Skyline High Schools beginning 2019 and Liberty High School no later than 2022. • ISD School Board approved Superintendent Thiele’s recommendation at its December 12, 2018, meeting

  6. President’s Report • The approved schedule will hold all seven periods on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, with each class running 50 minutes. Tuesdays will hold first, third, fifth and seventh periods with a 35-minute flex time. Wednesdays will hold second, fourth and sixth periods with a 50-minute flex time. Below is the complete approved “Modified Block 7 Period Schedule with Flex Time Option.”

Treasurer’s Report • November/December Highlights: • All income and expenses as expected and within budget • Income primarily from Corporate Matching • Expenses paid include: • Membership Fees • Insurance • Mid-Year Financial Review scheduled for Jan. 24, 2019 • Bank statements have been opened and reviewed by a non-signer on the account • No claims filed against insurance in November or December

  9. Membership • Member Enrollment – CY 729 / PY 753 • Membership Percentage – 72% (1,007 students) • 42 members added in November and December

  10. Programs • Holiday Gift Barn • 165 gifts were delivered • to Pickering Barn on • December 3 & 4 • Thank you to Chair Tracie Kinsley and to all the donors who gave generously to the Holiday Gift Barn and the PCMS Angel Network.

  11. Programs • Reflections • District Reception & Art Showcase • was Jan. 15, 2019 • Three PCMS artists will advance to the • State level, and two received Honorable Mentions: • Thank you to Chair Angela Bizzari and congratulations to all our fantastic artists!!

ASB/Lynx Life • “Cascade Corner” (student store) reopened on January 11 • Upcoming volunteer opportunities: • 3rd Annual Clash of Cans Food Drive – • Jan. 25 and 29, & Feb. 1 and 4 • 5-8 Volunteers, 8:00-9:00am • Count food donations received • All School Winter Social – Feb 15 • Locker Cleanout – March 19 • 10 Volunteers, 8:00-8:30am • Assist with locker clean out before Spring Break

Advocacy • Focus Day – February 11, 2019 • State Capitol - Olympia, WA • During each year’s legislative session, • Washington State PTA holds its annual • Focus Day, which brings members together • at the state capitol to advocate for the association’s top five issues. • Advocacy Week– February 11-15, 2019 • The regular legislative session begins January 14, 2019, and WSPTA has designated February 11-15 as Advocacy Week. • Sign up for the Voter Voice • https://www.wastatepta.org/wspta-needs-members-advocate-pta-priorities/

Outreach • Lunch for the Break • Mid-Winter break poses a challenge for families that rely on free or • reduced-price school lunches. “Lunch for the Break” is a program • designed to help fill the food gap for kids during this time. You can • help by donating a box (or two, or three). Fill your own box using • the standardized shopping list, purchase a pre-made box, or simply make a financial contribution to help purchase perishables. Donor drop off is on Wednesday, February 13th. Visit Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank to register and for more information: https://www.issaquahfoodbank.org/lunchforthebreak • Homework Help Opportunity • Does your student need homework help? Get free tutoring at King County Library Study Zone. The Study Zone is a place for K-12 students to study, do homework, and get help with their questions from volunteer tutors. You do not need to register and it is FREE. Check out the schedule at: https://kcls.org/study-zone/ • Outreach Angels • When a family in need in our school is identified, the Outreach Angels step in to help out. We have provided clothes, gift cards for gas and groceries, and basic household items to help families get back on their feet. Volunteers Upcoming volunteer opportunities: PCMS Career Fair – February 8, 2019, from 1-2:35pm Laura Meserole is still looking for presenters, to give two 25 minute presentations to groups of 25-30 students.  A classroom teacher will always be present to help manage behavior and it’s a great way for students to see a variety of options for their futures!  If interested, please contact: Ms. Meserole (meserolel@issaquah.wednet.edu), or Lisa Small (lisasmall@gmail.com)

Parent Education Parenting with Identity in Mind with Rosetta Lee January 23, 2019 11:30 AM Rosetta Lee, a highly-regarded, local and national expert in diversity, inclusion and equity will discuss parenting with identity in mind. Learn how to create positive self-identity in our children and teach them to be positive influences on others. The goal is to create inclusive communities which support everyone’s success.   19. Parent Education Teen Vaping: The Epidemic Sweeping the Nation February 4, 2019 7:00 PM Smoking is out, but is vaping any different? Find out why the FDA and American Medical Association are calling vaping/ juuling an “urgent public health epidemic”; explore the impact vaping has on our young people and how parents can help. Speaker is Jerry Blackburn, M.ED., CDP. He is the Program Manager for Substance Abuse and Prevention Services with Friends of Youth, Issaquah. Parent Education National PTA Resource Find relevant and interesting articles in the National PTA’s magazine "Our Children," at http://ptaourchildren.org/ The recent article “For Diversity and Inclusivity, Internet Access is Key” spotlights the partnership between National PTA and AT&T to help close the “homework gap” and ensure Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible families in select States have the resources they need for kids to succeed in the classroom and beyond.   21. Nominating Committee • Article 5, Section 5 of the WSPTA Uniform Bylaws requires the formation of a Nominating Committee. • The Committee shall submit to membership a signed, written report at least 15 days prior to the next BOD election of the name(s) of one or more candidates for each office to be filled. • Qualifications for Candidates • Committee shall consist of three members elected at a Membership Meeting. • Members shall have been members in good standing of a local PTA for at least 30 days preceding their election. • No person shall be eligible to serve more than two consecutive terms. • Neither the president nor the school principal is eligible to serve.
