  3. By the end of today you will know a wee bit more … • about the work being covered in P4 • how you can support your child at home

Literacy Reading How you can help… • Encourage reading for enjoyment • Encourage use of school library • Encourage reading for information about current topics • Talk about the different types of words like nouns and verbs and also use and importance of punctuation • Read with and to your child

  5. Reading in class will involve… • use of a variety of reading materials both fiction/non fiction • focussing on the development of reading and comprehension skills through a range of activities Reading homework will help develop these skills too.

  6. Types of Writing • Functional Writing – writing for a purpose • Imaginative Writing • Personal Writing – about own experiences • Poetry Big Talk -> Big Writing Big Talk will be used to give the children the opportunity to have a think about ideas for writing, make notes or jot down helpful words. Will continue to be used to help the children think about the kinds of words and punctuation needed within their writing to make it even better! VCOP

  7. Homework A variety of homework tasks will be issued throughout the week. Homework should be signed and returned on time. Homework may include: • Spelling • Reading • Big Talk to support Big Writing • Numeracy • IDS

Maths Regular ‘Number Talks’ to … • encourage mental agility • verbalise thought processes • demonstrate how calculationswere worked out • reinforce that it’s okay to work things out your way Maths covers the following areas: • Information Handling • Number, Money, Measurement • Shape, Position, Movement

  9. Health and Wellbeing Health and well-being covers a variety of areas including: • Physical, social, emotional, mental wellbeing • Physical Education ReminderNo jewellery for PE. Long hair tied back.Please keep PE kit in school.

  10. IDS This year’s topics will include... Owlsthrough our Book Study of ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark’ Trees ECO topic Bridges STEM topic Electricity Science Topic Robert Burns History Topic Children will be asked to carry out research related to some of the topics throughout the year.
