  3. Cathedrals and Drama • Cathedrals were pilgrimage sites • High point of many people’s lives • Performances in Cathedrals • Several sets around the Cathedral • Audience would move around • Build little house-sets (Mansions) Cathedral in Cologne, Germany

  4. Pageant Wagons • Eventually, plays performed outside • Sets loaded onto carts • Scenes would come and go, but audience remain Pageant Wagons eventually led to Parade Floats that we have today such as the one below from the Toronto Santa Claus Parade

  5. Content of the Plays • Like Rome and Greek, centered around Religion • Emphasized God’s will • Ritualistic rather than realistic • Mystery Plays (Biblical Stories) and Morality

  6. Comedy Del Art • Serious culture contrasted by Comedy del Art • Began in Italy • Traveling actors • Performed in Inn yards • Improvised • Stock characters • Situation Comedies
