  1. Just Repeat The Sinner's Prayer

  2. Have you heard this prayer will bring salvation • Churches today are putting out the message through fliers, though public worship, over the radio and TV.. • “Just repeat the sinners prayer believing in Jesus and you will be saved.” • Does the Bible teach this? • Is this true or false? • Is there a way to know if it does or not?

  3. What is the “Sinners Prayer” • Oh God, I know that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus was my substitute when He died on the Cross. I believe His shed blood, death, burial and resurrection were for me. I now receive Him as my Savior. I thank you for the forgiveness of my sins, the gift of salvation and everlasting life. Because of your merciful grace. Amen

  4. Does the Bible Teach The Sinner’s Prayer? If so where? Answer: You cannot find “a sinner’s prayer or “The Sinners Prayer” any where in the Bible?Telling us to repeat such a prayer is not found anywhere in the Bible

  5. There is but One God, One Jesus • 1 Cor 8:5-6 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

  6. Holy Spirit / reveals God’s Truths • Never said anything about a “Sinners Prayer” but does say: • 1 Cor 2:9-13 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

  7. Holy Spirit in NT Times Said : • John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. • John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come

  8. What the “Sinner’s Prayer” does : • According to the scriptures, absolutely nothing that God has told us to do in order to be saved • This is a fantasy invented by man to make salvation easy to obtain without obedience to God’s will • If this is not true and cannot be proven by scripture, it is a false teaching that gives people false hope of salvation • It is in truth a lie, and many that think they are being saved, will actually find themselves to be lost

  9. This doctrine is no different than… • Laying hands on the radio to be saved • Laying hands on the TV to be saved • But was anyone being saved according to the word of God? • Were people pleasing God or men? • Were people being saved based on truth ? • Billy Graham seemed to think so and so did all those that responded to his call !

  10. Prayer in the Bible was … • A privilege of the child of God, one who had already been saved from sin • No where in the Bible is anyone taught to pray for a alien sinner for salvation. • The Word of God does tell us how to be saved but prayer is not the way we are taught. • Prov 28:9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be an abomination. • John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

  11. Peter tells us … • 1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. • Who are the righteous? • Those who obey the teachings of Christ not the sinner who does not obey his will.

  12. 1 John 2:3-6 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. • 1 John 3:7-8 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

  13. Christians should have confidence in prayer … • John writing to Christians not sinners • 1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

  14. When Jesus Taught Men to Pray • He taught them how to pray • What to include in our prayers Matt 6:9-15, Lk 11:1-13 • Jesus was not praying when he was teaching, he was teaching about prayer • How to pray and what to pray for • Never did he instruct his Apostles to tell sinners to “pray the sinners prayer” and they would be forgiven - Why not? It is not part of his will !

  15. Did Jesus Teach The Apostleswhat to do to “Be Saved”? • Matt 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

  16. Mark 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. • Luke 24:46-48 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

  17. After the Apostles preachingon the day of Pentecost They Asked • Acts 2:37-40 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

  18. Phillip Preaching ToThe Samaritan Sinners … • Acts 8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. • 12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

  19. Acts 8:26-39 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. 27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, 28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. 29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. 30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. 32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: 33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

  20. 34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. 36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

  21. Notice a few others • Acts 11:13-14 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. • Acts 18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

  22. Lost Sinners Are Saved When: • They hear the gospel of Christ • They believe what they have been taught • They confess Jesus before men • They repent of their sins with godly sorrow • They are baptized for the remission of sins • Rise to walk a new life separate from sin • They live faithfully until death / then crown

  23. There are no instances in the NT where prayer was usedto convert and save lost sinners. Question: Why do men try to change God’s commands about how man is saved?
