Indefinite article= neurčitý člen • express thatthethingis not specific • itisgeneral • whenthewordissaidpeoplecanimaginedifferentobjects • example: I have a new car. – Everybodycanimaginedifferent type of car. • itisused in front of: single noun • itis not possible to use itwithpluralform • aisused in front ofthenounsbeginningwithconsonant • anisused in front ofthenounsbeginningwithvowel – easierpronunciation

Definite article= určitý člen • express somespecificobject • peoplecanimaginesomeconcreteobject • everybodyknowswhatisgoing on – youalreadyheardaboutitorsawit • example: Thenew car I haveisred. – Wealreadyheardaboutthat car. Thisinformation just specifyit more. • orwe use itwhentalkingabouttheonlything in thewholeworld • example: The sun isshining. (Thereis no other sun.) • thecanbeused in front of: single evenpluralformof a noun • ifthefollowingword in a sentence beginswithconsonant, thepronunciationwillbe [thuh] • ifthefollowingword in a sentence beginswithvowel, thepronunciationwillbe [thee]

  7. How to learn articles? • You need to practise. • You need to read and pay attention to articles in the text. • You have to think about what you want to say. • You have to remember a few basic rules.
