  9. Edit Modes • Shuffle • no overlap or space between regions • Slip • Free movement on the timeline • Spot • Specify exact place on timeline when moving region • Grid • Absolute - snap region to grid line • Relative - maintain relationship to grid when moving region

Edit Tools • Zoom • Normal - stays on zoom tool until another is selected • Single - reverts to previously used tool after one zoom • Trim • Standard - acts like a “razor blade” • TCE - expands or compresses region to fill the specified time - i.e. speed up or slow down (legalese guy) • Selector • Place cursor on timeline • Make selections (duh) • Grabber • Time - slide whole regions in time • Separation - move selection - instant “cut” • Scrub - listen forwards/backwards; fast/slow • Pencil • draw your own notes/waveforms • Can be used to “repair” clicks/errors in audio

  11. Counters and their uses • Main • Automatically sets Grid, Nudge and “BIG COUNTER” • Sets other parameters - start, end, length • Sub - alternate reference • Start/End/Length • Shows start and end times of the current selection as well as absolute length

  12. Nudge • Allows you to precisely move region in a predefined step • Can be set to min:sec, bars:beats or samples (like Grid) • Set nudge value • Use +/- keys on number pad or >/< on alpha numeric

  13. File management • Audio and MIDI menus (hidden panel on right) • Import - shift + apple + I • Clear/delete - shift + apple + B • Rename selected - shift + apple + R • Export - shift + apple + K • Show full pathnames

Fades, Cross fades • Fades provide clean beginnings and endings • Start at “zero” - no click • Crossfades provide smooth transitions between regions • Useful to blend in a punch or edit • SuperTool - draw fade or crossfade • D, G - fade In/Out to cursor • Apple + F - customize fade • Alt + Shift +3 - consolidate selection

Automation • Look Ma - no hands! • Automation modes • Off - channel will not follow automation • Read - channel will follow automation • Write - record automation in real-time • Touch - fader will snap back to pre-recorded automation “touch-up” • Latch - fader will remain at last position and overwrite existing automation - “latch-to” • You can draw it in too… • Pencil, Trim, and Grabber tools • Change track view

  19. Grouping • Grouping tracks allows you to perform the same operation simultaneously on multiple tracks • Mix groups - control multiple faders • Edit groups - cut, copy, move, trim,etc on multiple tracks

Busing/Bussing • Bus - a means of transporting a number of things to the same destination • In PT - a “Bus” is an I/O path inside the box • Busses can be used when creating “sub-groups” - processing a group of tracks together • Busses can be used for side-chain effects inside the box (reverb, delay, etc.)

  21. Bounce to Disk • Renders your mix in real time to a stereo audio file (or dual-mono) • Prints automation and effects • Sets format for output file • Low latency monitoring • USE A MASTER FADER WHEN RENDERING MIXES IN THE BOX!!!
