  3. Procedures Elective and emergency diagnostic and staging procedures, cancer surgery as well as emergency procedures such as appendicectomy.  In this procedure, 5–10 mm diameter instruments (graspers, scissors, clip applier) can be introduced by the surgeon into the abdomen through hollow tube. Multiple incisions are required for technology, which uses a console located away from the patient, with the surgeon controlling a camera, vacuum pump, saline cleansing solution, cutting tools, etc. The surgeon's hands manipulate two haptic grippers which track hand movements and rotations while relaying haptic sensations back to the surgeon. http://www.drsanjaykolte.in

  4. Pro’s of Laparoscopic Surgery Reduce Stress Response : The net effect is of an increased breakdown of carbohydrates, lipids and protein and reduced peripheral utilization of glucose. Cytokines : Tissue damage is limited as IL-6 activates the repair process by stimulating the release of acute phase proteins Less postoperative pain Briefer hospital stay More rapid postoperative recovery with comparable efficacy Fewer wound complications (wound infections, dehiscence, incisional hernias) http://www.drsanjaykolte.in

  5. Con’s of Laparoscopic Surgery Higher rates of postoperative bowel obstruction. Physiological consequences of pneumoperitoneum Raised intra-abdominal pressure Difficulty in evaluating amount of blood loss http://www.drsanjaykolte.in

  6. Complication Rate in Laparoscopy Conversion to laparotomy 1% , bowel perforation, CBD injury & haemorrhage Gynae mortality 1 per 10 000 to 1 per 100 000 cases Lap chole mortality 0.1 - 1 per 1000 Conversion to laparotomy 2 - 10 per 1000 30-50% intestinal & vascular injuries Retroperitoneal haemorrhage http://www.drsanjaykolte.in
