Progression • Pause Video Clip of 3 beakers being filled at a constant rate, get pupils to predict which will fill first with a reason. • Play clip and get pupils to reflect on their thinking or on each others. • Pupils to decide which beaker match graph A with reason. • Decisions to be made on numbers and labelling of axes Calculate/estimate volume of beaker A • Sketch graph for the other two beakers • Draw a beaker that would generate line B

Possible Follow Up Questions • Describe what is happening as I fill up Beaker A? • At which point is each beaker filling up quickest? • Which beaker has the largest volume? • At what time was the depth of water the same for the two beakers? • Draw extra lines on the graph for the other beakers and explain your reasons. • Explore other contexts

  6. Exam Question Two companies A and B sell pens. The graph shows how much each company charges. How much does company B charge for 100 pens? (1 mark) Which company would you buy 100 pens from? (2 marks) Give a reason for your answer. Two shops, The Pen Shop and News Box, buy some pens. (2 marks) The Pen Shop spends £ 25 on pens. How many more pens can they buy from company B than company A? Buying 200 pens from Company A or Company B costs the same amount. News Box buys 200 pens. They sell the pens for 25 pence each. How many pens do they need to sell to cover the cost of buying the pens? (3 marks)
