  3. NMC Project Objective and Activities Main objective: To establish new/improved shortsea shipping services to shift cargo from road to sea Core approach: • An arena for networking • Key actors from both private and public sector • Region – to – region cooperation

NMC Project Activities Project Strands: • Regional maritime clusters • Promotion of short sea shipping and develop new services in the corridor • Seafood transport and logistics • Maritime transport in the petroleum sector • Development of a sustainable maritime corridor • Management and technical assistance

  12. Short term perspective:NMC links to present MoSs • NMC initiatives with a bundle of routes and ports, attract cargo from road to sea • NMC initiatives represent sea links from third countries • NMC initiatives link to MoS for Western Europe and Baltic Sea

  13. Longer term perspective:NMC as a MoS • NMC as a separate MoS • Third countries eligible together with one Member State • Neighbouring countries conform with EU’s investment policies of MoS

  14. Aims of NMC II • Integrate the NMC as a Motorways of the Sea in the TEN-T network • Move cargo from road to sea, i.e. pursue NMC initiatives and new initiatives
