Be Big Overview Be Big’s Mission • To raise awareness about the Big Ideas and how their application can help to make the world a better place • To engage the public in taking action on Big ideas in their personal, school/business and community lives • To recognize BE BIG!TMactions in various forms (personal, community) • To provide resources for parents, teachers and others to use in the character education of our children and our communities Scholastic Inc., the global children’s publishing, education and media company, together with HandsOn Network,launched BE BIG! in February 2009.

Be Big Overview Be Big Contest • From April 20 to June 26, 2009, the “Be Big in Your Community” Contest is open for applications on how volunteers can use Clifford’s Big Ideas to make their own communities a better place • Your volunteers, schools and community partners could win a $25,000 community grant to put their Big Ideas into action!

  6. Be Big Overview Be Big Contest • 11 finalists will be selected by a multi-tiered judging process • 10 will win a $2,500 community grant • 1 will win a $25,000 community grant! • All projects will be executed in 2009 with the help of HandsOn Network local affiliates!

  7. Help Us Spread the Word Promote Contest Submissions: If everyone takes action on just one Big Idea to BE BIG!, the world will indeed be a better place. • We need your help! Encourage as many contest submissions as possible between NOW and JUNE 26! • Make sure that every school, classroom community group and individual volunteer knows about “Be Big!” and the “Be Big in Your Community” contest • Team up with Clifford The Big Red Dog® and HandsOn Network to get involved in your community now.

Help Us Spread the Word Promote Contest Submissions: • Promote the Be Big contest in affiliate newsletters, websites, news releases, weekly web blasts, local events. • Post a Be Big Contest Web banner on your website, Facebook page, Twitter account & link to national Be Big sites • Partner with HandsOn and Scholastic to pitch local stories of young people doing good in community • Host a Clifford Be Big Appearance & Rally at a local school

Next Steps Take Action Now: • Visit HandsOn Be Big Resource site on Friday to download all of your Be Big materials • Post Be Big HTML banner and nomination information on Web site, Facebook, etc • Create schedule of email blasts encouraging contest submissions • Promote contest to local media and news contacts • Speak to local schools, youth organizations, and volunteers about submitting contest ideas • Contact HandsOn with stories of outstanding youth activities for collaborative pr outreach efforts • Keep track of your efforts • Be creative in thinking about how YOU and YOUR NETWORKS can spread the word

If YOU have a BIG idea that demonstrates Clifford’s BIG IDEAS and helps make your community a better place, tell us! The “Be Big in Your Community Contest” gives kids, parents, teachers and community leaders nationwide an opportunity to submit their BIG ideas for a chance to win a community grant to bring those ideas to life. The grand prize entry will be honored with a $25,000 community grant, and the runner-up entries will each be honored with a $2,500 community grant (via HandsOn Network affiliate organizations or designees) from the Be Big Fund to be used toward implementing the winning proposals.* Visit: www.scholastic.com/cliffordbebig/contest
