  7. Project Scope • Replace all existing 100-Watt high pressure sodium (HPS) cobra head roadway lights with LED fixtures • About 14,000 lights in Orlando, Orange County, St. Cloud and Osceola County • Represents 52 percent of roadway fixtures • 60-month implementation schedule • One-for-one exchange between HPS and LED • Total capital cost of $4.9 million

  8. Five-Year Plan • Market competition drives innovation • Price of fixtures continues to decline • Technology continues to improve • Department of Energy (DOE) predicts additional 100 percent increase in lumens per watt by 2020

  9. Energy & Cost Savings • Greater than 50 percent reduction in consumption • ~3.5 GWh of energy reduction per year at full implementation in 2018 • Contributes towards conservation goal • City of Orlando will realize nearly $300,000 in annual savings at full implementation

  10. GreenWorksOrlando Goals • Goal 1: Greenhouse gas neutral for municipal operations by 2030 • Objective: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions 15 percent from 2010 levels by 2017 • Project will meet 2 percent of the 15-percent goal • Goal 3B: 50 percent reduction in municipal electricity Consumption by 2030 • Objective: 10 percent reduction in electricity used by 2017 from 2010 levels • Project will meet 1 percent of the 10-percent goal

  11. Next Steps • Continue to monitor the development of LED technology • Evaluate the replacement of 250W and 400W cobra head roadway fixtures • 13,000 fixtures • Pilot project to test retrofit kits for decorative fixtures • Submit capital projects to the Commission when one-for-one replacement is deemed economic and effective

  12. Challenges Facing Utilities • LED street lighting technology • Costs, cost recovery and rates • Energy efficient programs • Impact on overall financial situation
