  1. Mephibosheth FOOTNOTE

  2. Born an “enemy.” Beneficiary of a one-sided covenant, faithfully executed. Crippled and a refugee. Called, collected, and treated as a son. Carried to the master’s table. Judged “guilty” by an accuser. Loses everything of worldly value. Reconciled to his master. Rejects worldly restoration, only cares for his king and remaining in his presence.

  3. THE END REALLY IS COMING! • I quit researching all the instances of false predictions of the end of the world because I have a life and a beautiful wife. • Let’s reframe. The end IS near. • 78.43902 years or less! • So far, only one man has accurately predicted the end of the world.

  4. DON’T GO THERE… • The “why” of the great flood is described in Genesis 6:1-4. • I’m not prepared for the “depth” of that conversation today, except: • “Sons of God” is a term scripturally used to describe angels (Job 1:6, 2:1)

  5. DON’T GO THERE… • Jesus, however, indicates that angels do not marry, nor are given in marriage (Matthew 22:30) • Angels can appear in masculine human form and attract physical desire (Genesis 19:5) • God has imprisoned and punished angels for the commission of sins and abandonment of their domain (II Peter 2:4, Jude 6)

  6. DON’T GO THERE… • Offspring (Nephilim) just aren’t natural! (Numbers 13:33) • Satan’s apparent strategic answer to Genesis 3:15 • Seduce, Breed, Corrupt, Stack the Deck

  7. The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth-men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air-for I am grieved that I have made them."

  8. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. Genesis 6:5-10

  9. NOAH’S LONELINESS • Noah alone stood apart for (and to) God. • Noah’s been given a task that not one person would view as reasonable or sane. • In 120 years, Noah doesn’t score a single convert. • “Flood! Boat! Wanna come?” • “Sin! Jesus! Heaven or hell?”

  10. OH, SOHARD… Frequent adjectives: “Corrupt,” “Violent” Everyone you encounter is a dead man walking. Noah instead can look up and ahead to a promise…a covenant yet to be made. (Genesis 6:18)

  11. DÉJÀ VU! • Similarities between Noah’s Ark and Jesus Christ are, well, whoa! • Both vessels of salvation involve wood. • “Pitch” is used 70 times in the Bible to refer to atonement through blood sacrifice. • The ark is completely covered in the stuff, inside and out.

  12. DÉJÀ VU! • The ark has only one door. • “I am the door, if anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture…I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except through Me.” John 10:9; 14:6 • The ark has many rooms. • In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. John 14:2

  13. DÉJÀ VU! • Only God can close the door to the ark, and man cannot will it open again. • Noah can open his “window to the heavens,” however, whenever he likes. • Both Noah and Jesus had to finish their respective works in order for salvation to be possible.

  14. DÉJÀ VU! • Noah’s flood was a baptism of destruction. • Jesus’ baptism is one of new life. • BOTH are meant to be an end to wickedness. • BOTH are an act of cleansing. • Rainbow = covenant not to destroy. • Cross = covenant for eternal salvation.

  16. When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

  17. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

  18. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. John 1:9

  19. I SAW THE LIGHT… Jesus is the light of the world. We are to be the light of the world. The light we shine is Jesus’ very light. We may have a 9,000,000 candle spotlight, but it looks significantly different between high noon and midnight.

  20. SODARK… • One day, we know there will be widespread darkness. • AT THE SAME TIME, “light shiners” will be gone. • There are pockets of darkness to be found now. • We need to know when and where to sine our light.

  21. CAN I HAVE AN APPLICATION? What duties do we share with Noah? What duties do we NOT share with Noah? How can you build and populate your ark, and what do I even mean by that question? 
