  3. Before we begin… • Please take out your notebook and get ready to work… • Continuing with the theme of 3-dimensional figures…today we will look at volume • Raise your hand if you can tell me what volume is…

  4. Objective • Students will find the volume of prisms and cylinders

  5. Volume • Volume is the measure of space occupied by a solid. • For both prisms and cylinders there is a formula to calculate volume. • When calculating volume use the formula method • Write the formula • Substitute • Do the math Let’s look at an example…

  6. Volume of a Prism • Simply stated the volume of a prism is the length x width x height. • However, if you look at the formula you will see that: V = Bh Where B is base and h is height • In this formula the B represents length x width. • Let’s look at an example…

  7. Volume of a Prism V = Bh V = (l ∙ w)h V = (4 ∙2)7.5 V = 8 ∙ 7.5 V = 60 in3 7.5 in 2 in 4 in

  9. Volume of Cylinders • The formula for the volume of a cylinder is: V = πr2h • πr2 represents the area of the ends of the cylinder • Let’s look at an example

  10. Volume of a Cylinder V = πr2h V = (3.14)(52)(15) V = (3.14)(25)(15) V = (3.14)(375) V = 1177.5 ft3 5 Ft 15 Ft
